About Jane...

 

Jane has had 32 years of clinical counselling experience since completing her Social Work Degree with honours and a PhD. She also has a Bachelor of Arts and a Post-graduate Diploma in Education. She has been in full-time private practice for 14 years. She has lectured at the University of Queensland in their clinical programme. Her vast counselling experience extends across a range of professional organisations specialising in different areas. This has provided her with extensive knowledge and expertise in psychological interventions for individuals, couples, families and groups. She is a member of the AASW and is also an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with this organisation.

I can offer you many years of experience combined with an empathic, warm, professional, individualised therapeutic approach to support you in making the changes you are wanting. Throughout my years of clinical practice, I have received, (and continue to receive) ongoing, evidence-based and well-respected training in different approaches to counselling.  My depth and breadth of experience has provided me with the capacity to develop therapeutic approaches specifically catering to your individual needs.

 

My 32 years of experience has involved working with individuals, couples and families with children of all ages. I provide a professional and supportive approach for people requiring assistance with the following:

  • Anxiety, Depression, Post Natal Depression, Adjustment Issues;

  • Traumatic incidents and PTSD including violence, sexual assault and combat;

  • Self-esteem and confidence issues;

  • Post-natal support - feeding and sleeping patterns, maternal attachment;

  • Relationship difficulties including same sex couples – affairs, conflict, parenting differences;

  • Family issues – step families, parenting difficulties, conflict, fractured relationships;

  • Past childhood abuse and poor attachment issues;

  • Workplace difficulties (including workplace bullying, conflict, career issues);

  • Loss and grief;

  • Self-awareness and personal development.

  • I also provide professional supervision to other Social Workers.

 

What approaches do I use?

I have had training in and use the following approaches in my work with people:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT);

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT);

  • Exposure Therapy (for trauma and PTSD);

  • Psycho-education;

  • Interpersonal Support Therapy;

  • Skills Training such as coping skills, communication skills, stress reduction skills, assertiveness skills;

  • Gottman Couples Therapy; Couples Systems Therapy;

  • Family Systems Therapy;

  • Insight Based Therapies;

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS);

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR - for trauma and PTSD);

I tailor each session for your needs using whatever assists to get the best outcomes for you.

Can you receive a medicare rebate with me?

Yes you can receive a medicare rebate  if you have a GP Better Access to Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or a referral from your Psychiatrist.  

What days and hours do I do?

I work Monday to Friday and every second Saturday. I offer late appointments on Wednesdays and out of hours appointments on Saturdays.
